Saint Joe Juniors, if you plan on going to college, the time to prepare starts now.
One of the biggest parts of deciding on where you want to go for higher education is visiting a bunch of places that you are interested in, so that you can get a better idea on what each place has to offer.
Recently, I went to Purdue because they had the Introducing Purdue visit day going on. They had an Academic Fair where we were able to learn general info about all of the departments as well as stands relating to internship opportunities and student life.
The campus overall is pretty big, but most buildings relating to one subject are close together. Also there were several dining halls and numerous takeout places to quickly get food. Not to mention a bunch of sports programs and buildings to join, so if you are into sports, Purdue can provide.
While I was there, they offered a number of sessions to the prospective students about many of the majors. Some of the highlights of Purdue are their engineering and math/science programs. They have an excellent first year engineering process where people can learn a little bit about every type of engineering and decide what they want to go into. The math and science departments are some of the best in the nation, and they have of a lot of resources that can set you up for success in the future. They also have basically every major possible at Purdue, but there is less of an emphasis upon in.
Purdue also offers a wide range of opportunities to help you gain work experience, if that is what you are looking for in a college. They said that companies often come to campus to look for people to take as interns, and they also help place people in co-ops, which is essentially when a student takes one or two semesters to get paid to work for a company.
The biggest advantages to Purdue are their math, science, and engineering programs, so if you want to do that, you should visit yourself!
