On November 1st, we will have an all school retreat here at Saint Joseph High School! It is a jam packed day full of local speakers, activities, music, and more. Here is all the information about it.
This retreat is made for the members of SJHS to connect and learn more about our faith and what comes with it. This will happen on All Saints Day and all activities/discussions will revolve around the theme of saints.
The retreat will start off with all students in their flexes, which will be students “homebase” during the retreat. This retreat will be split into 12 break out sessions with different spokespeople and 15 activities. This Thursday, a survey will be sent out to students to chose their preferred activities. Additionally, this day will be a Spirit Wear Day for all students.
The first speakers starting off the retreat’s main session will be The Vigil Project. The Vigil Project is a group of musicians and speakers who travel around the world and talk about ministry. They just recently performed music at the National Eucharistic Congress! The Vigil Project will praise and worship with us as well as discuss the question of: God Calls, How Do I Answer?
After the discussion, there will be a small group discussion then a bathroom break/transition to break out sessions at 9:40am. The break out sessions for girls will be split into 9th and 10th grade as one group and 11th and 12th grade as another group. The boys will all be grouped together for their session. All these sessions will occur at the same time with Carly Brown, Cat Edmonds, Andrew Ferguson and the Vigil Project as the speakers.
The second breakout session has a number of presenters including, Dr. Chris Baglow, Deacon Andy, Dr. Melanie Williams, Matt Harrington, Fr. David and so on. Each set of presenters will have a different virtue/question to guide their discussion. At 11:00am, students will begin their lunch rotation and activities will begin. The activities being offered contain poetry, a dance party, board games, sing-along, athletic activities and alternatives that can fit anyones interests.
As the bell rings, students will be sent back to their flexes and then transitioned to the main gym for the second main session with the Vigil Project based on the recurring topic of praise and worship. Meg Hunter Kilmer will guide a discussion about saints and then, a small group discussion with the flex groups. Peer Mentors and members of Peer Ministry will help lead their flex in these small groups.
To finalize the eventful day, Fr. Augustine and Fr. David will have a mass for the Feast of All Saints and then everyone will be dismissed. This day is dedicated to be educated on our faith and virtues through exciting ways. There will be fun for everyone, no matter the preference!
Optional:
From 6:00pm-9:00pm families will be invited to a Potluck Chili Cook Off, Praise and Worship and talk and a mass. This will be held at the school.
