At Saint Joe, we have dress down days often. We have dress down days to support groups and help people in need. The dress down day money goes to a special cause. Last week we had a dress down day on October 18th. The dress down day was for Muscular Dystrophy. Muscular Dystrophy is a group of diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. In muscular dystrophies, abnormal genes lead to muscle degeneration and mostly forms in the beginning of childhood. Life span is often shortened because of this.
This week on Friday October 25th, we will have another dress down day for Saint Mary’s Dance / Miracle Network. Saint Mary’s hosts a dance marathon to raise money for our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, which provides life saving treatments and healthcare services for children and their families.
We will have another dress down on November 8th for Adam Milani Shed Hockey Showcase. The Adam Milani Shed Hockey Showcase is a Adam Milani Thanksgiving Memorial Tournament. During Adam Milani’s senior year at Saint Joe he was paralyzed playing a hockey game at Culver Academy in Culver Indiana. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1988. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 39. Milani became a professor of law at Mercer University where they have a writing competition in his honor. They note that”Adam A. Milani – a passionate disability rights activist and accomplished scholar – was well known for his publication of numerous practical books and articles in the field of disability discrimination. He taught legal writing as well as the law of disability discrimination and always encouraged his students to become prolific and outstanding writers.”
We will have a dress down day on November 22nd for the Samantha Hickey Foundation. The Samantha Hickey Foundation is in memory of Samantha Hickey. She was 3 years old and died from blood-related cancer. Her parents started the foundation for children and their families in the South Bend area who were experiencing similar types of illnesses.
