Athletes across the world all prepare for their games differently. On one hand, athletes like Stephen Curry eat healthy and run pregame sprints while some other people like Shaquille O’Neal ate two turkey clubs along with fries and a pineapple soda then he would sleep for four hours before the game started. All of these athletes have different ways to prepare but what should you do to prepare for a game?
The most important thing that all athletes should do to prepare for a game is to hydrate. Hydrating should start 2 weeks before your game. This will give your body constant energy and the necessary items it needs to function at its best. The recommended amount of water to drink in a day is around 16 ounces but in most situations the more water you have will only help you. 20-32 ounces of water a day can help tremendously when it comes to peak performance.
The second most important thing to do before your game it to consume enough carbohydrates. Your body burns carbs when moving so much so it is important that you consume enough before your game. Along with carbs, protein is another key food that you should be consuming. This helps your body strengthen its muscles. You should eat around 3-4 hours before game time.
The last thing that athletes should be doing before a game is pregame stretching and warming up. This will start to pump your blood throughout your body and gets your lungs warmed up too. This is how every high level athlete preforms so good before their games. To wrap up your game, you should do cool down exercises to let your body recover. This can consist of icing and stretching after your game.
