Notre Dame vs Navy, One of the most historic rivalries in college football history. The series is 81-13-1 with Notre Dame dominating almost every year. Although it is a rivalry, this clash is not one in which these teams have bad blood. After each game both teams come together as one and sing the Alma Mater. This rivalry is one that includes respect and class till this day.
During World War 2, Notre Dame was struggling because a lot of enrollment was enlisting in the war. To help Notre Dame, Navy made the campus a training center for their students enrolling and paid enough to use the facilities and help keep the University of Notre Dame running during that rough time. As a result of Navy’s help, Notre Dame extended an open invitation for Navy to play football and consider it an annual repayment on a debt of honor. They have played each other every year since 1927 aside from 2020 due to Covid.
They have played all over the world, though typically in South Bend and Annapolis. Periodically, they play at a neutral site. In 2023 and 2012, the Irish and Midshipmen squared off in Ireland, And just this past week they played in Metlife stadium in New Jersey.
While Notre Dame dominates the Midshipmen year to year, this is still considered one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports and is one that will still be played for generations to come.
