November is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month. Hunger and Homelessness week occurs the week before Thanksgiving when people come together and bring attention to the underprivileged in our community. You can help this awareness by donating food, supporting food drives like the one we have at Saint Joe, or giving directly to local shelters. You can collect food, hygiene products, blankets, books, and toys. You can get your local community to donate and help this cause. Every family should have food for Thanksgiving. Food drives are the most common solutions to help those in need of food and are homeless. Thanksgiving is a time we should come together and help each other. We should be grateful for the things that we have and the ability to help each other.
The first Hunger and Homelessness event was held at Villanova University in 1975. Hundreds of high schools, colleges, and communities across the world come together to support and help this awareness. It never hurts to help somebody in need. You should always want to help other because you never know how they got there and what they’re going through. You should always want to give back to the community. Thanksgiving is a time where you can do that. You can donate food to help families that are in need. At Saint Joe around Thanksgiving we have a food drive. There are boxes around the school where you can donate canned foods to help families in need. Before Thanksgiving we give the food we donated to families in care packages. You should donate food to help those in need for Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month.
