The book Happy Place is about three girls named Harriet, Cleo, and Sabrina who were roommates with very different personalities. Over time they became best friends and would vacation to Sabrina’s summer home in Maine every year.
Eventually over time each of them meet a significant other, and also bring them to the summer home. This becomes a tradition for them, and they do it every year. One year Sabrina finds out that her dad has decided to sell the summer home. So she plans the last time ever at the summer home. She and her significant other decided to get married while they were here. When Harriet and her significant other get there things become complicated. They were engaged for a long period of time, but in the past year they broke it off, but no one knows. They decide to pretend to still be together throughout the week for the sake of the perfect week for Sabrina. Throughout the book they go through obstacles, and eventually everyone finds out about their lie.
This book is overall bland. Not much is happening in this book, and the beginning is quite slow. Towards the end the plot gets more interesting, but that’s only when it reaches the end. The book is very predictable, and you often know what’s going to happen next. The book shows a good example of friendships, and how we should handle them.
Another thing that wasn’t great about this book was the characters’ names. One of the boys’ names is Wyndham, which is an odd name overall, and weird to read over and over again. Lots of the events in the book are boring, and not many interesting things happen. There also were some good parts of the book though also. The story was good, it was just way too long for what it was. In my opinion the book should’ve been shorter, with more detail. Overall this wasn’t my favorite book. Next time you are going to pick out your next read, this might not be the best choice, unless you are looking for a very slow read.
