Is TikTok really getting banned? As of now, no. “Trump was the first to try to ban TikTok during his previous administration, but more recently changed his tune on the app.” Trump’s decision on banning TikTok was short lived, the ban only lasted about 14 hours. But Trumps suggests that he most likely gives us a 90- day reprieve.
During the 14 hours, people could no longer open the app, getting a notification that reads “Sorry TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now. We Are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned.”
A permanent shut down on TikTok has been talked about for 4 years, and now we are seeing a change that we’d never expect. TikTok has changed many people’s lives like small business owners, musician writers, influencers, and even helped people get into content creating and changing their lives for good. “Despite promising to put the app out of business during his first term, Trump has vowed to keep TikTok alive in the U.S. But how he might execute that promise remains murky.”
This basically means the the permanent decision for TikTok’s future is uncertain. Whether or not TikTok sticks around, it’s unclear if it’s too late for Trump to extend the ban. “The only truly permanent solutions to keep TikTok online appear to be: 1) pass a new law reversing the old one — no easy task, considering that the existing bill had such broad bipartisan support in Congress.”
