The girls lacrosse season is approaching so I went to the parent meeting to find out more. The girls have been practicing this winter to prepare for the upcoming season starting on March 6th. The team is going to be led by Alaina Emerick as the assistant coach and Josie Walters as the head coach.
Alaina Emerick has had past experience playing lacrosse. She played for a while before tearing her ACL. Josie Walters has not had experience playing lacrosse, but she has played many sports and has good goals for the girls this season. Over the past year the girls team has gained enough players to have a JV and a varsity which is a significant step. Having a JV allows for players with less background to gain experience and playing time on the field. Varsity will consist of girls who will give the team the best shot at winning.
Last year the team made it to semi-state but suffered a tough loss. This year their goal is to make it to state. Girls lacrosse has been named as an “emerging varsity sport” By the Indiana High School Athletic Association which is an exciting possibility in the coming years.
Sydney Schmeltz commented, “I am very exited for this season. Catch us at state!”
Girls lacrosse is open for anyone to join, experience or none. If you are interested in joining, reach out to Shea Anderson at [email protected]. Mandatory practice dates are TBD. They will be Monday through Friday with games taking place on weekdays and weekends. The girls will also have weights a few times a week.
Be sure to come out and support the girls this season!
