I recently watched A Real Pain, written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, and it was honestly quite enjoyable. Starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin as polar opposite cousins going to their Polish grandmother’s home after she died. I thought this movie was great. It did a decent job tying in hard topics with solid comedy and Kieran Culkin did a great job playing the part of someone suffering. His performance, I felt, is what gave the movie is comedic flare but also helped emphasize the title and connect it to the plot. His acting, along with Eisenberg’s, was spot on and I felt it was very fitting.
Apart from the good acting and good plot, the cinematography was great including various good shots that were so visually appealing. The shot itself was great but the color alongside of it was really dazzling as it was a very vibrant film. The colors practically popped out of the screen that’s how bright they were which I often like to see in films, unless of course that kind of flare isn’t necessary. The music as well, tied the movie together perfectly, consisting entirely of classically based piano songs such as Nocturne No. 2 in E-Flat Major, 24 Preludes, Op. 28 No. 19 in E-Flat Major, and Nocturne No. 12 in G Major, Op. 37. I thought it was cool how the only music used throughout the movie were these classical piano songs that could have possibly been the songs Eisenberg and Culkin’s characters practiced when they were younger.
Overall I thought this movie was a great watch that was very entertaining from start to finish. Great cinematography, great acting, great music, with a good plot. I would rate this film a solid 9/10 and would definitely recommend it as a must watch.
