Prisoners is a movie about two little girls, Anna and Joy, who go missing one day while they’re playing outside. Their parents are really worried. Keller Dover (played by Hugh Jackman) is Anna’s dad, and he is very sad and scared. He wants to find his daughter more than anything.
The police, led by Detective Loki (played by Jake Gyllenhaal), try to solve the mystery and find the girls. They catch a man named Alex (played by Paul Dano), who was near where the girls went missing, but they don’t have enough proof to say he took them. So Alex is let go.
Keller doesn’t believe Alex is innocent. He thinks Alex knows something, so Keller does something very extreme. He takes Alex and locks him up in a secret place, hoping Alex will tell him where the girls are.
While Keller does this, Detective Loki keeps investigating. He starts to find out strange things that make him think there’s more to the story than he first thought.
As the movie goes on, Keller gets more and more upset, and Detective Loki gets closer to finding out the truth. The movie shows how sad and scary it is when something bad happens, and how hard it can be to know what’s right or wrong when you’re trying to help someone you love.
The movie has a lot of surprises, and it makes you think about what people are willing to do when they are really scared or sad.
