Yesterday we honored Denisse Vallejo, Mr. Etyang, and Teddy Berente by winning the month of February Community Award. The Community Award honors individuals whose actions have significantly impacted the well-being of the local community. Mr. Etyang, Denise, and Teddy offer their time, resources, and skills to help people out.
Mr Etyang can be described as “great when communicating with students and funny, he keeps class lively and humorous with keeping the class engaged” , another student said, ” He cares about his students and once you get better as a student and a person.” He also helps out with the Football team. Mr. Etyang used to live in Kenya where he taught high school biology and chemistry for 11 years before coming to Saint Joseph High School.
Denisse is involved in 11 extra-curricular activities which are NHS, Poetry Club, Aiden’s Masterpiece, Student Ambassadors, HOPE, SECO, Creia tutoring, Spanish Club, Spanish Honors Society, Soccer, and Track. Mr. McCarthy said Denisse is ” really friendly to everybody and has a really positive attitude.” Another teacher described her as “very funny, kind, and compassionate.” She cares about her teammates and how they are feeling, and she also tries to bring a smile to everybody’s faces.
Teddy was described by one of his friends as being “really smart and funny, but he still is a humble guy and makes everybody feel good about themselves.” Teddy is involved in NHS, peer mentors, mathletes, and science club, Quiz Bowl, and the wrestling team. He serves as the Student Body President of the class of 2025.
