Girl’s lacrosse is in full swing! Over the past three months preseason practices were run but the last week of February was the start of mandatory practices and player evaluations. The team finished third last year in 1A for Indiana falling short in the Semi-State game against Center Grove. They are looking to go farther this year and bring home a state championship!
It isn’t all about the wins and losses with this team, “Bringing a positive environment and a good work ethic is a huge factor for us this season.” says senior captain Ellie Emberton. When I asked what the goals the team had for the first week of the season, senior Kate O’ Shaughnessy responded, “This week we are working on building team chemistry. We’re doing that by pushing on each other during conditioning, team bonding, and working on fundamentals such as defense and stick work together.”
This season, a new coaching staff has been introduced to the team. The new head coach is Josie Walters and the assistant coach is Alaina Emerick who teaches in the English department. The staff also includes coaches from the University of Notre Dame’s women’s club lacrosse: Emily Pannunzio, Victoria Viteri, Margret Ferris, and Lauren Johns. The captains for the season are seniors, Shea Anderson and Ellie Emberton along with junior Mary Maher.
Their first game is coming up quickly where varsity faces Crown Point on March 14th at 7 pm at Crown Point. Junior Varsity’s first game is against Penn on March 20th at 6 pm at Penn High School. Come out and support these students as they begin their season!
