Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is an organization dedicated to serving those in need around the world in accordance with Catholic social teaching. Catholic Relief Services provides essential support across the globe, with far-reaching programs in countless countries. Among other areas, their programs support the health, water security, and education of the poor around the world.
According to crs.org, their health-centered projects have impacted 136,000,000 people in over 40 countries. CRS works to aid those with malaria, tuberculosis, malnutrition, and other illnesses, as well as to avoid the spread of disease in poor communities in the first place.
Catholic Relief Services’ water security projects reach 43 countries and include 9,000,000 participants. These projects work to provide universal access to safe, clean water.
Catholic Relief Services’ education-centered projects serve 8,000,000 people in 44 countries. They work to provide the poor with opportunities to receive high-quality education. They also work to provide food for students so that they do not go hungry during the school day.
Another program run by CRS is the Rice Bowl, which aids several hundred million people across the world in a fight to end starvation. This year, the Rice Bowl celebrates its fiftieth year of feeding the hungry during Lent. Saint Joseph High School participates in this fundraiser, collecting donations in students’ fifth period classes.
Bishop Rhoades is a member of CRS’s board, and he advocated strongly for their cause at our school mass. He especially emphasized the importance of the Rice Bowl in helping those in need.
Catholic Relief Services is a force for good that helps millions of people to survive and to thrive.
