This past Thursday members from our Best Buddies Club attended the 75th annual Logan Nose-On luncheon, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Logan Center in South Bend. The luncheon was at the century center located in South Bend, and was filled with over 800 people all supporting the Logan Center.
The Logan Center opened in 1950 with only 24 dollars that four mothers had gathered in order to help children with intellectual and physical disabilities. It has. grown immensely from there, and now serves over 110 clients in seven counties all across Michiana. The Logan Center works to include everyone, helping the lives of those with disabilities to reach their full potential.
At the event, a museum was included showcasing articles from various decades showing important milestones and openings of the Center. Along with that, art pieces, many made by the members of Logan, were shown and portrayed in many different ways. One important one being a remaking of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” with special Logan buildings across the landscape. This followed with the lunch, and seven different speakers all representing a different decade of Logan. Each decade, all with the growing of the Logan center, was happily talked about showing pictures of the progress this center has made. One important speaker being SJ alum Marty Harshman’s father, Dan Harshman, who was the former Logan CEO. This event served as a reminder of the powerful impact those with intellectual and physical disabilities have in our local community, and the importance of supporting and treating them with respect.
