One of the many extracurricular activities that our school offers is Euro Challenge. In Euro Challenge, every team chooses a specific economic problem in a specific country and creates a presentation about it. This activity requires a lot of problem-solving, economic, and teamwork skills. In order to get on the team, you have to try-out and have very good presentation skills. This year, Saint Joe had 2 teams. One all girls, and one all boys.
The girls team advanced to make it into nationals in New York City. This team decided to solve the problem of climate change in their chosen country of Malta. Euro challenge requires a lot of research and economics to make a good presentation, and this team did that well. The members of the team are Catherine Lutz, Beatrix McClarren, Payton Wulf, Megan Sullivan, Audrey Zelinski, and Addy DePauw. This team along with the boys team traveled to Chicago for their regional competition in early April. This regional competition consisted of many teams from all over the region and each team chose a different country and gave a different presentation. Only a few teams from each regional competition make it to nationals so this is a big deal.
This past weekend, the girls team had the opportunity to compete in Nationals in New York City. They traveled there on Sunday and had their competition on Monday. They did very well in the first round of their competition and was one of the few teams that made it to finals. They ended up finishing 5th overall. Along with the competition, the girls got to explore New York and had a lot of fun. Euro challenge is a good thing to join if you want to have fun experiences, make new friends, and learn more about economics.
