Chase Konieczny, a star at Saint Joseph High School, verbally committed to play for Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), will wear the Eagles men’s basketball team uniform in the 2025–26 season. Having scored 2,138 points in his secondary school career, the 6-foot-4 South Bend, Indiana, shooting guard is ranked 44th overall on the all-time Indiana high school basketball scoring list. Konieczny’s commitment to FGCU is also somewhat different because he will get to play with older brother J. R. Konieczny, who is transferring from Notre Dame. First time playing together, the two brothers will have that little additional unique something to contribute to the Eagles squad. Head coach Pat Chambers of FGCU was delighted with the new addition and had this to say about “Chase is a tough basketball player. He is a very athletic, high-level shooter who plays the game with great toughness and grit. He’s a fierce competitor who knows how to win; he would do whatever it takes to win for his team.”
Konieczny capped his high school career in style with a game-winning put-back dunk with just over 50 seconds remaining to earn St. Joe’s victory over the Indiana Class 3A State Championship. His ability to score, athletic ability, and competitive spirit will have an instant impact at the college level. When the Konieczny brothers take the court together, FGCU fans eagerly anticipate the play they will be able to bring to the team. Together, their combined experience from South Bend to Fort Myers offers an interesting narrative with the upcoming campaign.
