On April 21, 2025 the women’s and men’s Saint Joe Lacrosse teams hosted the first ever Bark Back at Cancer event. The night included a scrimmage where both programs, including Junior Varsity, played against each other using women’s lacrosse rules.
In the first half, the women’s team was leading with a score of 4-3. At halftime, Irish Youth Lacrosse played a ten minute scrimmage while the high school teams cheered them on on the sidelines!
The first one hundred spectators received a special Bark Bark at Cancer t-shirt and all ticket purchases were donated to the River Bend Cancer Research foundation.
Players and spectators enjoyed Jun Buggies’ Mexican Food Truck as well as concessions while watching the game.
It was an intense game throughout all four quarters, but ultimately the men’s team came out victorious with a score of 8-4.
By the end of the night, including online donations as well as in person ticket purchases, the teams had raised 2,300 dollars for River Bend Cancer Research services!
“This event was truly an amazing display of what our mission at Saint Joe is” says one women’s lacrosse parent.
Overall, The Bark Back at Cancer event demonstrated how Saint Joe athletics is continuing the administrations core values of build family by combining the two sports team together for one cause, serve with joy by raising awareness for cancer research, discover our gifts by using our athletic abilities and lacrosse knowledge, and lastly reach higher by trying a new aspect of the sport for the betterment of our community.
