Amidst a rocky season, the Saint Joseph Boys Soccer celebrated their seniors against the Elkhart Lions, but fell short 4-1. Although this was a hard loss the main focus were these industrious seniors.
Senior, Declan Gallagher, a strong center back and a captain for the boys soccer team was celebrated for all of his success. Declan was only three-years-old when he started playing. Some of his favorite memories were beating Penn in the 2024 season, and getting food after practice with his teammates. He became a better leader by taking the role as captain and leading these boys. Declan plans to attend college. A piece of advice to future and present Saint Joe boys soccer players Declan gave was, “Savor every moment because four years fly by.”
Another captain, Brody Hill, the starting goalie, started playing soccer when he was four-years-old. His favorite memories while playing for Saint Joe was also beating Penn in penalties and his senior night. Some goals Brody has accomplished is staying positive and working hard as a team to get better. His plans are to attend college, hoping Notre Dame, and study Engineering. Some advice Brody gave was, “Keep your head up no matter if you lose or make a mistake, and use it as motivation. No mistake is unrecoverable.”
Romio Clark, a defender, who contributes to Saint Joseph’s strong defense. Romio started playing when he was five-years-old. One of his favorite memories was when Harshman, former player, “killed” John Glenn’s goalie his sophomore year. His goal this season was going out with a bang and he would say it was a success. Romio’s future plans are moving to Texas and attending trade school for HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning). A piece of advice Romio gives his teammates is, “Work hard because conditioning is no joke, and high school goes as fast as they say.”
Andy Sorg is a striker that started playing when he was four-year-old. His favorite memory was also Varsity and JV teams dominating against Penn last season. Andy’s goals this season were to score and win a game in sectionals. He intends to go to Notre Dame and is still deciding what to study. Andy Sorg says, “Take advantage of the four years because they go by very quickly.” He is a great leader, player, and student.
Talal Saleh is 2025-26 Saint Joe soccer manager. Talal played three years for Saint Joe and also played soccer when he was a baby. His favorite memory was beating Penn last season. He worked on building his confidence this season. Talal wants to attend Indiana University Bloomington, hoping to study biology. He believes this team is young with lots of talent and potential. One piece of advice Talal gives to future and present soccer players is,”Stay fit though the summer.”
These young men put time, dedication, and hard work for their team. They’ve grown as a team and learn to build each other up. Saint Joe started off sectional with a win against New Prairie, 2-0, and have a match against Culver Academies. Despite the losses and wins this season these boys are hoping to get far in sectionals and are preparing for the competition.
