Ben’s Show Review: My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman
November 29, 2020
After releasing its third season in late October, the Netflix show “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman” has continued to be a highly-praised success.
In this show, David Letterman, former talk show host and Indiana native, chats with various celebrities from pop culture, sports, politics, and other fields! Guests on the show have included Kanye West, Barack Obama, and Melinda Gates. Letterman has a sit-down conversation with these icons in front of a live audience, and discusses their career, personal lives, and even their future ventures.
However, this new Netflix feature separates itself from his previous talk show, “Late Show with David Letterman”, because of the unique experiences that he goes on with his guests. For example, as an extension of the interview, Letterman took comedian Dave Chappelle golfing, and drove around F1 driver Lewis Hamilton a couple of times around the track. This aspect of the show is special, as it allows for more relaxed and personal conversation, which gives the audience a greater insight into the interesting lives that the guests lead. Overall, these different interactions with guests outside of the interview separate this Netflix show from conventional talk shows.
My favorite episode from “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman” appears in Season 3, when Dave Chappelle came on the show, and was filmed from his farm in Ohio. The hilarious duo of Letterman and his comedic guest is unlike any other interaction on this show, and enables an extremely entertaining conversation to transpire. For viewers who decide to watch the show chronologically, starting with season one, look forward to the most recent season for this hilarious episode.
I believe that this show deserves a 10/10! The questions asked by Letterman, the interesting conversations that he and his guests have, as well as the interesting trips they go on, all contribute towards an entertainment goldmine, and these aspects allow for the viewer to be constantly invested. Additionally, the sit-down conversations provide meaningful insight into the guest’s careers, as well as the hard work and determination that is required in order to put oneself into the position they are in. I would recommend this Netflix feature to someone who is interested in talk shows, or really anything relating to celebrities. Finally, I would watch this show if you are someone who is looking for something comedic, as David Letterman is always quick with a joke or funny story.
