The Saint Joe Girls’ Basketball team played Goshen at Goshen on Tuesday, January 12 and despite their hard work, ended up falling to the Redhawks 42-35. The Indians fought hard from start to finish, with just a few late turnovers costing them the win. Kelly Ratigan led the Indians with 18 points, including four three-pointers!

Although Goshen’s Brynn Shoup-Hill broke their school record in the first few minutes of the game, the Indians didn’t let this distract them. The whole game the Indians fought their hardest, guarding the Dayton commit effectively. Despite Tuesday’s loss, the Indians had a quick turnaround with a strong win on Thursday against John Glenn.

On Thursday, the girls traveled to North Liberty Elementary School to face the John Glenn Lady Falcons. The Lady Indians came out strong with an intense first quarter, leading 11-8 at the start of the second. John Glenn quickly adapted to this, holding the Indians to 6 points in the second quarter. The team fought hard until the end coming out with a 47-44 win. Mia Naman led the Indians with 17 points, sinking 4 three-pointers, close behind her were Kelly Ratigan with 13 and Sarah Hiestand with 11. The Indians are excited to face Bishop Noll Institute on Saturday for the second time this season.

Hannah Tyler says, “Even though the start to the season was rough, the team has been trending and improving each and every day at practice. We have thoroughly improved since their rough start against New Prairie back in November.” It has been two months since the season started and their hardwork and dedication have been large factors in their winnings and positive trend throughout the season. The Indians have been happy with their improvement throughout the season and are excited to see what the rest of the season will bring!

As the last five games of the season approach, the Indians have a tough schedule with Bishop Noll, Adams, Elkhart, and Homestead at home, with Lake Central at Lake Central to close out the regular season. Sectionals take place at home in Alumni Gym starting the first week of February! Come support your Lady Indians!
