In the fabulous world of lawyer, judges and objections, Mock Trial can be an intense competition. Hours of work goes into writing the direct and cross examinations, not to mention the amount of time going into practicing everything. So when the “Freshman Team” advanced to State this year, it was a big deal.

The team, Bryant Bogunia, Molly Credi, Jake Deahl, Ally Dugard, Mary Clare Elliot, Theo Mager, Piotr Nabrzyski, Abby Ortiz, Ella Scott, Stella Toothaker, are all experienced attorneys and witnesses with at least one year under their belt. The team has been preparing almost every day via Zoom to prepare for State. The team’s goal is to place higher than they did last year at State.

Ms. Henderson, one of the advisers, said that during their preparation for State “This team has grown in the knowledge of the case, their confidence, and in their ability to object and respond to objections.”

Mary Clare Elliot said in response to the exciting new of moving on,”All of my teammates were amazing at regionals and I’m excited that our hard work paid off because now we get to compete at state!”

In the regional tournament, the team won several awards for their performance. Abby Ortiz won two best witness awards, and Stella Toothaker won one best witness award. And Ally Dugard and Piotr Nabrzyski both won a best attorney award.

Congrats to ‘The Freshman Team’ for their success in the midst of a challenging year!
