The 93rd Oscars

The 2021 Oscars had a much more relaxed vibe this year, so much so that play off music didn’t interrupt speeches. But that didn’t prevent history from being made when Chloé Zhao, director of ‘Nomadland’, became the second ever woman to win best director. That’s not all, Minari’s Youn Yuh-jung won best supporting actress, the first Korean acting win in the show’s 93-year history.

Even though there was no host, many notable names handed out awards to the recipients. Several stars dazzled the red carpet, such as Brad Pitt, Laura Dern, Amanda Seyfried, Regina King, Zendaya, Viola Davis and many more.

‘Nomadland’ won several awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress for Frances McDormand, her third Best Actress win. Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor in leading role for his performance in ‘the Father’. ‘The Father’ also won Best adapted screenplay. Daniel Kaluuya won Best actor in a supporting role for his work as Kadeem Hardison in ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’. ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ also won Best Original Song for ‘Fight for You’.

‘Soul’ a new Disney classic, won Best Original Score, and later Best Animated Feature Film. ‘Mank’ won Best cinematography and Best production design. Best costume design and Best makeup and hairstyling both went to ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’. Best original screenplay went to ‘Promising Young Woman’.

While the night was very different from previous years, the 2021 Oscars still proved to be an eventful and entertaining show.
