Despite a jam-packed week full of matches, the Lady Indians Tennis Team has taken their spot as the number one team in the state!

Senior captains Kate Bellia and Alayna Campbell have led the team to victory against Culver, John Adams, Penn, Crown Point, Concord, and Park Tudor all in one week! The squad consists of 8 girls, Tea Lazareto, Alayna Campbell, Lizzy Raster, Gracie Velasco, Ashi Amalnathan, Dani Graham, and the Bellia sisters, Molly and Kate, who have worked each day to improve their game.

The team is coached by Bill Mountford and Daniel Rodgers, two key reasons for their success. The coaches push the team each day in practice to prepare them for their matches ahead. Coach Mountford is extremely proud of the girls but he wants them to keep growing and preparing for both the NIC and the state tournament.

Sweeping Penn, Adams, Culver, and Concord isn’t easy, but the girls somehow manage to keep up an undefeated streak this season. Lazareto says, “I think each of us has grown since our last season (2019), but most importantly, we are still growing and improving in practice each day this season.” Tea has the utmost confidence in her team that they will make a long run during the state tournament as they have lots of talent, but more importantly, grit.

This past week, the Indians faced Park Tudor (ranked no.1) down in Indy. The Lady Indians fought through a tough battle but eventually were able to take down the Panthers and claim the top spot in the state. The team now ranks number one throughout Indiana and the girls have acquired a target on their backs. With two tournaments, four matches, and a state tournament left, the Indians hope to keep up their winning streak and to make the trip down to State.

Make sure to congratulate the team on their successes so far and to stay tuned for their successes in the near future!
