The Cross Country team has been at it since the beginning of June with preseason conditioning. With high turn-outs, they got a head start to their season. Official practices started early August, giving them just enough time to prepare for their first meet.

Senior Captain Brendan has lots of hope and praise for his current team, exclaiming “the girls team is off to a hot start with lots of depth and varsity level runners. With a dominating force on the girls side, they won their third straight city championship Thursday September 2nd. The varsity girls went 1-2-3-4-6 to take the lead. The team has “lots of depth and varsity level runners” that makes them one of the most competitive in the area. To add to their list of accomplishments, they won the Northwood Invite also for the third straight year.

On the boys side, Brendan is even more optimistic. He said, “It’s been a successful summer with most guys coming out everyday, participation in optional workouts this summer was high. I think that both teams are poised for big runs in the state series.”

As Coach Mike says, “hard work leads to performance,” explaining the boys success this year. With standout contributions by underclassmen, Gabe Polaniecki has stepped up to be the boys third scorer, Elliot Mark also has been a varsity scorer, and Josh Dolniak (freshman) broke 20 minutes.

With the season just about halfway through, there are some important meets coming up for both teams. The New Prairie invite is Saturday September 18, the biggest athletic event in the state of Indiana. October 2nd marks conference, and the following week October 9 kicks off the state series with sectionals!
