Following 5-0 wins against Clay High School and Riley High School, the boy’s tennis team easily made their way to the regional round in the state tournament. This was their 13 straight sectional win in a row, a streak that looks to continue into next year.

Against Clay on Wednesday, no Saint Joseph tennis player dropped a single game, all winning 6-0, 6-0. On Riley, the performance was still dominant with Kyle Fernandez winning at a record setting timing.

The tennis team is made up of a strong senior front two with Daniel Pries and Kyle Fernandez. Lower classmen Colin Blumentritt and Will and Jake Westberry continue to impress. Davis Borders is still a solid performer at 1 doubles, and Senior Piotr Nabrzyski continues to shine in his first year on the team. The entire varsity is supported by the giant masses of the JV team, always showing energy and enthusiasm every match.

Following the awards ceremony, a very ecstatic Fernandez said, “I love these guys, team, and just tennis. I am so happy to be holding this trophy for the fourth straight year, but we all know the job is not done. We have tough regional matches coming up, and if we play the way I know that we can, we should be able to win.”

In regionals, the tennis team is poised to play Chesterton, whom they have beaten before in past tournaments. In the regional championship, the winner of that match plays the winner of Penn vs LaPorte.
