For the month of October at our all-school Mass, Saint Joseph High honored two seniors with our prestigious community awards. Jose Pimentel and Kelly Ratigan exceeded the expectations. These two students continue to dedicate themselves to service and bring others together within the community.

Jose Pimentel is a member of National Honor Society, Peer Mentor, Spanish Club, as well as the Order of the Arrow. The Order of the Arrow is an organization within the Boy Scouts dedicated to serving others. Pimentel is working on becoming an Eagle Scout.  When asked what it meant to him winning the Community Award, he responded that it is “being willing to interact with your teachers and take their advice to heart.”

Actively listening and trusting what his teachers teach him has led him to success in and out of the classroom. He looks forward to “continuing to serve happily, and working hard in the classroom.”

Kelly Ratigan is Student Body President, member of the girls basketball team, a part of the Ronald McDonald House Club, Peer Mentoring, as well as National Honor Society. Recently, she committed to play division 1 basketball at Loyola University Maryland where Ratigan plans to bring her leadership and service for the next four years.

“Some of my biggest role models throughout the last four years have also received the award which is why it means so much to me,” Ratigan explained that she has learned from these role models and built off them to be the best model of service in all that she does. A great friend and leader, Ratigan looks to continue this service “specifically through student council.”

Jose and Kelly are a light for others within this community and both find a way to stand out.
