Dune's Back in the Box Office: A Review

Katie Lavelle

Frank Herbert’s 1965 Science Fiction Novel has hit the Box Office for the second time. The 2021 release boasts of some of Hollywood’s biggest names. Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, and Zendaya take on the big screen in the new Space action tale.

Dune is the thrilling tale of Paul Atreides as he travels to a faraway planet to ensure the safety and prosperity of his family. The planet is home to the most precious resource known to man, “the spice”. Spice is a drug that extends human life and provides accelerated and more fruitful levels of thought. In a world where only those who can conquer fear will survive, mental strength matters most.

After watching the film it is safe to say that Zendaya was not in it nearly enough. Timothée Chalamet’s acting performance was outstanding and his large amount of screen time was well deserved.

The movie was action-packed and will keep the audience on their toes. Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Lady Jessica Atreides (Rebecca Ferguson) ability to control minds added an interesting element and some needed excitement.

With its space setting and high-tech technology in both war and everyday life, Dune has similar elements to StarWars. The family dynasties and royal aspect remind me of Game of Thrones. The movie was a perfect blend of action, drama, and suspense.

Overall I would highly recommend watching Dune. Whether you go see it in theaters or from the comfort of your couch via HBO, make sure to go in with an open mind and let the story unfold around you.
