This past Wednesday November 11, four extraordinary athletes signed their National Letters of Intent to their respective colleges. MacKenzie Schmeltz signed to Washington and Jefferson college to play golf. Sammy Sierra signed to the University of Notre Dame to swim. Jane Lloyd signed to the University of San Diego to swim as well, and lastly Kelly Ratigan signed to Loyola Maryland to play basketball. The ceremony included the athletes signing their binding letters, brief speeches of thanksgiving towards family, coaches and friends, pictures and refreshments.

Signees Schmeltz and Lloyd had some special words about their commitments. MacKenzie Schmeltz said, “I’m excited to play Division 3 golf, so I can manage a perfect balance between playing a sport in college and being a preMed major. I’m grateful for all the coaches that helped me and my family for being the intense spectators that they are!”

Signee Jane Lloyd offered up more words of thanks. “My family has played a huge role in my ability to play a sport in college. I would like to thank my mom for waking up for every morning practice with me and my dad for starting the car and making sure it was warm in the winter. My family who would drive me to all my practices and watch me swim in meets. They have been my rock and I am gratefully in debt.”

All four of the athletes are to attend their respective colleges starting in the fall of 2022 as they start their academic and athletic career on a new stage.

Make sure to congratulate the athletes when you see them!
