Girls’ Basketball Tremendous Start to the Season
November 17, 2021
The Girls basketball team just earned their 3rd team win on the season! So far they have played Merrillville on Saturday the 6th and won 72-58.
On Tuesday the 9th the girls played Portage and won 50-47. It was a very intense game and the Indians were down by winning with 20 seconds left. Then Kelly Ratigan swooped in to save the day with a breakaway layup. Then Ratigan was fouled in the last 5 seconds and had a free throw which she swished in the back of the net night putting the Indians ahead by three at the end of the game.
On Thursday the 11th the lady Indians played New Prairie at home. The girls took another win with a final score of 50-60. Ratigan played a huge role in the team’s success on Thursday with a total of 38 points on the night!
The team is young and full of new players, but Ratigan says “we all play very well together and everyone has such a positive attitude. These first four games we have outworked our opponents, and that has been the key to our success. Our offense is really coming together nicely, and we may not have the tallest team in the world, but we do anything to outrun our opponents. Before we shoot we look to make sure there isn’t a better pass or a better shot, and we play smart which has been crucial to our success.”
On Friday the girls traveled to Lake Station and won 67-41. Congratulations to the girls on your success this far and being 4-0. Make sure to go out and support the girls at their next game!
