Thanksgiving Traveling Precautions

Thanksgiving Traveling Precautions

Billy Mattison

Are you and your family traveling for Thanksgiving this year?  If you are, be prepared for busy airports and highways this year.  AAA predicts that 53.4 million people will travel for Thanksgiving: 48.3 million by car, 4.2 million by plane and 1 million by other forms of transportation.

In this “on the way there” post-pandemic world, many are anxious to reconnect with their families this holiday season.  Some precautions that some may want to consider before traveling are: try to avoid peak times, fully vaccinated travelers are encouraged,  and avoid renting a car to prevent COVID exposure.  For those gathering with friends and family, it is recommended to wipe the kitchen and bathrooms as often as possible, implement social distancing for seating and open windows to provide air flow.  Now of course, I write this and I feel I need to share that I am headed to possibly one of the worst “law abiding” COVID cities…Las Vegas.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, take a moment to be thankful for what has been a much improved year compared to last year.  When I think about Saint Joe, I’m thankful for being in school – even with masks.  I am thankful for being able to attend extracurricular events in person.  I’m thankful for a community that comes together in times of need.  Wishing all of you and your families and safe and healthy Thanksgiving.  Enjoy your turkey
