A Division One Mindset: Liam Fuller and His Track Endeavors
February 1, 2022
Along with being a recovering Tom Brady fan, Liam Fuller was mainly known for his accomplishments with the Track and Field program at Saint Joe. After moving from New York to South Bend before his freshman year, he worked hard to leave his mark on the program. Fuller did just that after leading the program to a city win last year, winning the 200 and 400 meter sprints.
Currently, Fuller is a Freshman at Xavier University where he plans to join the track team as a walk-on next year. While he currently is not in the program, he trains and runs independently. His flashing speed has impressed coaches on the division one level. Fuller says he would not be where he is without the support of his teammates and coaches inside the Saint Joe program.
“When I moved to South Bend I was met with an intense program that prepared me for this moment. Without the dedication of Coach McCarthy I would not be where I am today. Also shoutout to Coach Jay for grabbing me this spot.”
When it comes to advice for future track stars at Saint Joe, Fuller gives this advice,
“Just stay ready and stay committed. It’s not hard to find a time or a place to run and do sprints. Do not make excuses and get to work. Stretch, lift, and run. It will be worth it in the long run.”
And indeed it will be. Saint Joe’s track program has sent several players to collegiate programs, and Fuller is next in line. In his first meet, Fuller posted a 53.90 in the 400 M dash. As he continues to train he continues to use the tools that Coach McCarthy and Coach Jay have taught him.
