Vice President

Kate O’Shaugnessy

  1. Why do you want to be an officer or representative of your class?*

I want to run again for office this year because I want to continue to work on projects/ideas that Mr.Kennedy has approved to make sure they are set into motion. I also think there are changes that could help the school be the best it can be, and I want to be a part of that change.

  1. What do you think the role of an officer or representative at Saint Joe should look like? How do you see yourself contributing to this leadership team?*

I think the role of an officer looks like dedication, contribution, and teamwork. Dedication because time and effort must be devoted to be a good officer that can make the voices of their class heard to Mr. Kennedy the principal. Contribution because speaking up and voicing an opinion to the rest of the council is vital to change and to being a good officer. Teamwork because working together towards an end goal is what every school needs to get things done.

  1. What do you believe are the biggest challenges facing the students at our school today? How will you help the student face these challenges?*

I think a big challenge facing the students at our school is late policies and phone policies, I think if the policies of every tardy were more clear to the students in question or a warning was set out right before they get a detention there will be much less detentions given for tardiness. Phone policies have angered the students because of the question Why can’t we have them out during lunch and in passing periods? By either changing the policy so that hopefully phone usage during class goes down or by giving the students valid reasons why we cannot change the rule.

Joelle Maskiny

  1. Why do you want to be an officer or representative of your class?*

I would like to have leadership role in my class and help students have a voice in our school. I think that it’s important to have different skills so this position would help foster my leadership skills. I also want to be involved with as many things as I can in my high school career so that I can be prepared for anything I decide to do after high school ends.

  1. What do you think the role of an officer or representative at Saint Joe should look like? How do you see yourself contributing to this leadership team?*

I think that the role of an officer at Saint Joe should be responsible, have good communication skills, and the ability to contribute ideas and lead. They should also be able to handle responsibility and balance school and their position. I can see myself contributing to the leadership team because I can fill all of these qualities. I have and currently am very good at balancing my extracurriculars and school work. I have very good communication skills as well as listening to others and their ideas.

  1. What do you believe are the biggest challenges facing the students at our school today? How will you help the student face these challenges?*

I think that one of the biggest challenges that faces students at our school is socialization. COVID has brought people farther apart both physically and mentally. I want to create a more welcoming environment and hold events for students to have fun and socialize. This will strengthen community and can help people and even incoming freshman to make new friends and connections. It could also improve mental health and hopefully make high school a little less stressful.

Nick Nguyen

  1. Why do you want to be an officer or representative of your class?*

I think I would be able to bring a lot of new ideas that would benefit the daily life of a highschool student. I also saw how my peer mentors, the current student body officers and People like Evan, Colin, and Axel made changes and committed their time. I want to follow in their footsteps. Not just doing the bare minimum but going above and beyond.  I want to make changes that will better the life of the saint joe student.

  1. What do you think the role of an officer or representative at Saint Joe should look like? How do you see yourself contributing to this leadership team?*

I think the role of a officer should look like someone doing it. They should be making the change. They should be able to listen to their peers and talk for the ones who can’t. I see myself being the bridge. I see myself listening to problems and trying to solve them.

Lauren Frick

  1. Why do you want to be an officer or representative of your class?*

I want the student body to feel they are heard and attempt to make the changes they want. I hope to work with a team of good people to make this happen.

  1. What do you think the role of an officer or representative at Saint Joe should look like? How do you see yourself contributing to this leadership team?*

I think an officer or representative should be a leader and willing to use their time. I see myself doing both these. I am not shy therefore I am not afraid to use my voice and talk to people I do not know and I am willing to spend time to make the change the student body is looking for. Whether it is slight or a little bigger I am willing to use my time to make it heard.

  1. What do you believe are the biggest challenges facing the students at our school today? How will you help the student face these challenges?*

I think the biggest challenge is motivation. Lack of motivation is common and the reason kids have missing assignments which results in failing grades. I’m not quite sure how to solve this but I think having kids want to come to school is key. Making school very enjoyable and a good environment is what my goal is by the time I graduate.
