Softball Reflects on State Title

Thomas Eck

“Unforgettable” that is the word that current Senior Madeline Wroblewski described her junior year. Over the spring South Bend Saint Joe had some very impressive feats winning state in Tennis, Lax, and Softball. Softball defeated Tri-West in the 3A State Championship 1-0 after a walk off hit by Berkeley Zache in extra innings at Perdue University. To get to State they had a hard road playing top ranked opponents and winning multiple games in extra innings with clutch plays from many different players on the team. Madeline said that her favorite moment was watching Haley West (Senior) round 3rd base and on her way home knowing that the State title was theirs after such a hard fought playoffs. The sensation of winning was even greater after the previous year with a hard loss in Semi-State.

Madeline and her team are looking forward to the team chemistry with all of the returning players with only a pair seniors (Haley West and Kennedy Swope) leaving and plenty of Juniors coming back to lead the team for their final year. They’ll need that type of leadership because they will be facing the challenge of playing in 4A for the playoffs this year that means that they will face better competition in the playoffs playing bigger schools . This test will be interesting to watch and the fans of Saint Joe softball are excited to see the players grow even more and rise up to the challenge. The Lady Indians will begin this Spring and are excited to start working towards more success.
