Girls Soccer 2022 Season Update
September 16, 2022
Last soccer season, the St. Joe girls team fell at Semi-State to the would be 3A State Champions, Homestead, in a shoot out. The team has a lot to look forward to this year, as they are mid-way through a new season, working hard to prove themselves from last years loss. So far this 2022 season, the girls have played 11 games, going 9-2, falling just short to last years state runner-ups, Carmel, and last years’ 2A State Champions Evansville Memorial, early in the season. So far the girls have played 5 top 20 in the state teams in a difficult schedule, defeating 3 of those 5, and are currently ranked fifth in Indiana for High School Girls Soccer. In the NIC, they are 2-0 as they beat South Bend Adams (4-0) and Elkhart (6-0) in convincing wins.
Senior Captain Ella Frick was one to watch last year on opposing teams, as she scored 29 goals in 21 games as a junior. She is already averaging 1.2 goals per match this season, racking up 14 goals in just 12 games. Senior Captain Lauren Harrington is also pouring in the goals, scoring 12 goals in 12 games, followed by junior Eliana Lang with 4 goals. 9 of the girls have scored spread out of the 35 goals scored just this season. It is safe to say that with this crew, sharing the ball, and glory, is an easy thing. Additionally, Senior Captains Peyton Hull and Ella Frick have already gotten their seasons started with recognitions and honors. On September 10th, the Indiana High School All-American watch player list was released. Frick was one of five forwards on this list, and Hull was one of two goalkeepers. The pair both also received honors from First Team All-State last year and are aiming to do that and more, again this year.
The seniors were honored on September 14th prior to the Plymouth match. Ella Frick, Maeve Green, Lauren Harrington, Peyton Hull, and Jade Safeukui-Noubissi were recognized for their contributions and commitment to the program. They also poured in the goals during the game. Lauren Harrington and Ella Frick both scored twice as did Maeve Green – as the team won 9-0.
The Lady Indians have just 5 more games left in the regular season before tournament play starts – including key matches against Penn and Marian as they look to win the NIC for the fourth year in a row. Also upcoming are matches against John Glenn, Guerin Catholic, and Munster.
