Meet Mr. Garcia!

Peyton Hull, Staff Writer

The science department of Saint Joe has gained another new staff member! Saint Joe High School Alum Saul Garcia, who graduated in 2018, has assumed the new Earth and Space Science teaching role at his alma mater.  He is currently teaching 10th and 11th graders in the science department and is already making an impact on the program. Garcia attended Purdue University and majored in geology.

Mr. Garcia will only be at Saint Joe for a year, as of now, as he plans on attending graduate school somewhere in either Florida or South Carolina. His future plans consist of studying marine sciences in one of those two places. Mr. Garcia’s favorite part about teaching is the content of what he teaches the students. When interviewed he said, “The material is fascinating – I think the students enjoy it.” Also when interviewed, Garcia touched on the humor it brings about being in a building and having some authority now alongside the teachers that were teaching him just 4 years ago.

While at Saint Joe, Garcia was a crucial member of the cross country team. He ran the 3200 and also the 1600. His times for those included a PR of 11:10 on the 3200 and a PR of 5:25 on the 1600. Also while on the XC team, Saul received Honorable Mention NIC as a senior and made the Academic All State Team. He was a well rounded student balancing both his athletics and academics and Saint Joe is so excited to have him back!
