Anna Bailey is an artist here at Saint Joe, who has won multiple scholastic awards. This year she is taking AP Drawing, Painting, and another drawing class as her electives this year. Bailey’s favorite art class is AP Drawing because, “It is a very individual course. I like being able to create art that speaks to me. I don’t have to follow prompts in that class because you get to be independent in what you choose to draw/create.”
For her AP Art Portfolio, Bailey had to choose a theme for all of her works. Her sustained investigation for the class is “about the thoughts and emotions people try to hide.” She continues, “Each one of my art pieces will reflect an emotion, a feeling, or an insecurity people attempt to cover up. My entire art portfolio will be structured around revealing the hidden parts of people that are not easily seen on the surface.”
Out of her own artwork, she says her favorite piece is a piece centered around heartbreak. Bailey says it is her favorite because, “It has the most meaning behind it.” Punctured and Pierced is the name of this work and Bailey shared a bit more about it. “It will focus on the subject of heartbreak; and I don’t just mean when you experience a breakup with your partner, but also in the sense of the emotions we feel when we are betrayed or lose someone close to us.”
One of her favorite artists is Burton Morris. Bailey says, “My favorite piece from his collection is the Bubblegum Machine because of its bright colors and clean look.” This work shows an old fashioned bubble gum machine with gumballs flying out of it. It is a bright, action filled image and very eye-catching.
Outside of school, Bailey likes to craft and scrapbook as well as work on her AP art portfolio. She is a member of NHS, student ambassadors, Aidan’s Masterpiece, and art club.
Look out for Bailey’s artwork in the halls!
