With the first quarter of school now wrapped up, the Saint Joe school year is well underway and it’s time for the theatre program to shine! The fall play 12 Angry Jurors is nearing the stage with performances happening next week October 19th and 20th at Washington Hall.
The cast has been working diligently since their first rehearsal in early September and this very intense show has been a challenge in many ways, but nothing this very experienced cast can’t handle. Taking a peak behind the curtain, the rehearsal process has been very methodical with students meeting every Monday thru Thursday from 3:30-6 to rehearse, usually an act at a time, for this three-act-monster of a show.
Rehearsals have included blocking, where the actors mark where they are to walk and what movements they take on stage, and speed-throughs where actors run through their lines in order to drill in the many cues and monologues this show has to offer. In a very unique way this show also includes unnamed characters that the cast members have been able to give their own flair and character which helps flesh out both the acting and costuming which the wonderful Mrs.Baglow has tailored to the person.
As the rehearsal process comes to an end it’s almost time for the cast and crew to move into Washington Hall for the very famous and jam packed “tech week” and we wish them the best of luck and broken legs. The show opens up October 19th and has a second performance on the 20th, tickets are $5 at the door so don’t be afraid to come out and support the show and get a deep philosophical and thought provoking experience.
If you need any more incentives, consider this from freshman Kate Kurzhal, “It’s going to be good. Theatre kids are crazy. We get to use fake knives I love it!”
