One of the most involved and important parts of our school is our maintenance staff. From setting up masses to cleaning out the stands long after football or basketball games have had their final whistles blown our amazing maintenance staff is there to make sure everything is ready and taken care of so that we can all go throughout our days as easily as possible.
One of these amazing, often unsung, men is Mr. C.J. Walsh.
A local since birth, coming from Granger Indiana, Walsh has worked at Saint Joe for thirteen years now. He says he came to Saint Joe because his brother used to work here and his father used to teach environmental science. As for his work Walsh says he enjoys interacting with and seeing students as well as trying to keep them all in line, he says there’s a lot of emphasis on the word “trying”. His least favorite part of work he says would be cleaning the boys’ locker room during the football season and he says that the outside bathrooms by the football field can also get pretty bad at times. It’s safe to say the football team is the main culprit in many of his toils.
Outside of school Walsh enjoys going on walks and events with Autism Speaks, he recently went down to Florida to participate in an event down there with his mother and some family. As an avid Star Wars fan Walsh also enjoys attending comic cons and cosplaying and engaging with a lot of friends he has in the community, though he has yet to catch up on all of some of the recent television shows.
Finally, when asked if he had any words of wisdom or advice for the students at Saint Joe Walsh said, “If you have a dream or career you want to follow I would say just go for it. I know some parents kind of push their kids to do one thing or another but I would say just let them know that that’s not your thing…go for the stuff you love to do“.
If you see Mr. Walsh in the halls or after a game, make sure to say hello and give him a huge thanks for all of the work that he does for Saint Joe!
