Elle Guyton is a senior at Saint Joe who enjoys playing golf, being president of Hope Club and participating with Moxie.
Guyton really enjoyed the dual credit class Moxie this year. She loves the fact that it is not set up a like a traditional class with lectures and allows students to have more freedom in the classroom. Through Moxie, she has found that she thrives when she has independence in the classroom. Elle came up with two different Moxie ideas. The first one is finding a way to reduce food waste while also making nutritional meals available to college students. Her idea for this is to take the food from dining halls that would normally be tossed out and have it packaged up into containers and placed into a climate controlled “vending machine” that students would have access to 24/7. Additionally, she has recently taken on Together for the Long Run as her other Moxie project which she is very excited about!
Guyton talks about her different challenges while being in Moxie. A significant one is coordinating with Notre Dame students. It’s hard to try to start something so big when you can’t all work on it at the same time. The Notre Dame academic schedule and class times obviously don’t line up with hers so it’s hard to find a time when all are available to meet. This then makes it hard to keep things progressing forward.
Elle has devoted significant time to these two projects. For Elle’s food waste project, she has attended pitch competitions outside of class to help with her public speaking and so she can learn how to convey her ideas very strongly in as few words as possible. She works on the projects during the 90 minute class as well as meeting with her food waste group at Notre Dame or via zoom weekly.
Together for the Long Run takes up even more time because she is the Executive Director – holding weekly meetings with the whole committee, and additional meetings every week with just the executive committee.
Outside of moxie she loves to workout, find ways to improve herself mentally and physically, hangout with friends, spend time with family, and play with her puppy!!
