We have never had a boy’s volleyball team at Saint Joseph High School…until now. After much persuasion and agreement from other schools, the IHSAA created a competitive boy’s volleyball league in the Spring of 2024 and they have taken strides. Coached by Mrs. Gaff, they are constantly on the lookout for new talent to add to the team!
Junior Run Li- the center on the men’s volleyball team- says that his experience has been great so far. He says “We have made a lot of progress so far, but we still need more athletic kids to join us, so I hope you guys can join!” Li says the team likes Coach Gaff and that she’s a very good coach, just another reason to join!
The boys competed against Riley last night and play in a tournament in Fort Wayne this weekend. They went 2 and 1 at Carroll which advances their record to 2-3! Aidan Linn had a double double against North Ridge with 11 digs and 10 kills, Run Li 10 digs and 5 aces, Colin Blumentritt with 4 kills, and Logan Gutermuth with 4 kills. These successes led them to defeat Northridge in a very close game! The offense against Columbia City was led by Colin Blumentritt with 6 kills and 6 digs. Noah Dobski and Run Li had 3 aces. Aiden Linn led the team with 12 digs, and Quinn Freeland and Run each had 5 digs. Their defensive effort was just what they needed to pull through another win!
The future of men’s volleyball looks bright at Saint Joe’s, but they definitely need more exposure and hype around the sport to gain other’s interest in joining the team.
