The Mishawaka and Saint Joe High joint Cabaret was a smashing success. For those who couldn’t attend below is a review on each of the acts.
All for the Best from Godspell was performed by a certain article writer (Peter Baglow) and Mae Sollmann. Simon Noem described this performance as “Solid.” Sarah Burch noted “Peter Baglow talked very clearly while very fast, and Mae was a wonderful Jesus.”
Bags by Clairo was performed by Izzy Loaiza. Izzy played some very good guitar work while singing being only one of two who played their own accompaniment.
Fine from Ordinary Days was performed by Trey Newcomer and Ava Stopczynski. This performance had all the energy and feeling in the original and was a joy to watch.
If I Could Tell Her from Dear Evan Hansen was performed by Jade Williams. Jade did a spectacular job with this song despite it’s being intended to be sung by a guy.
Words Fail also from Dear Evan Hansen was performed by Danny Cyr. Few performances were as touching as this one, Christine Baglow even stated, “I was crying from the first verse.”
Poor Unfortunate Souls from the Little Mermaid was performed by Trey Newcomer and Kamdyn Hock. This performance has all of the sass and feeling of the hit animated movie in a way that was incredibly to watch.
The Ballad of Jane Doe from Ride the Cyclone performed by Gabby Peters was simply a masterclass in putting all on has a singer out in the open and was simply jaw dropping to see not to mention slightly unnerving.
Perfect Blue by Hannah Bahng and Andrew Luce performed by Mariah Howard was the other song in which the performer played the song themselves and it was quite enjoyable to watch and was a nice change of genre from The Ballad of Jane Doe.
Seventeen from Heathers was performed by Isabella Butler and Jade Williams. The performance was very good and the lyrics were stranger in comparison to the rest of the songs which was refreshing.
Funny Girl from Funny Girl was performed by Eileen Marra. This performance was simply perfect. The lyrics were thoughtful and lended themself to the music so well and Eileen did a wonderful job trapping the entire show of Funny Girl into a just a few minutes.
City of Stars from La La Land was performed by Max Ford. Max Ford brought a incredibly amount of sincerity to the table with this performance which really made the simpler piece shine in the midst of all these more over the top numbers.
When He Sees Me from Waitress was performed by Ava Stopczynski. Ava’s ability to combine a accent with her singing voice sold this number completely to the audience as well as its more turbulent tempos kept the audience engaged.
She Used to Be Mine also from Waitress was performed by Margaux Hannewyk. Much like Max the sincerity brought to this song was what truly made it special but unlike City of Stars this song also had the more Finale type of vibe to it that made it incredible to listen to.
Some Like You By Adele Adkins and Andrew Wyatt was performed by Kamdyn Hock. From Kamdyn’s entrance on stage the entire crowd in belief this was the show ender was ready for a spectacular performance, and they were not disappointed by Kamdyn’s incredibly great showman ship and singing ability.
And finally I’m Just Ken from Barbie was performed by Elliot Mark, Danny Cyr, George Otteson, Peter Baglow, Peter Dolezal, Sam Mark, and Simon Noem and was choreographed by Lucy Noem. This song was a blast to perform on stage and wowed the crowd with it’s unexpected entrance as a surprise final number.
All in all this Cabaret was an amazing show of talent by both schools. This writers only hopes that next year students from both schools will perform in an act together. But that is around 364 days away as the time of writing so anything can happen.
