The Saint Joseph girls’ lacrosse team is having a strong spring. So far, the team is 10-2. Kidder explains that their success continues to strengthen their team as they face difficult competition. The team believes that state is within their reach this year.
“Our sectional is a good fight, but we know that we can beat all of the teams through semi-state. When we get to semi-state we will need to play our best for a second chance to beat Park Tutor as redemption for last year,” Kidder says as last year’s semi-state game is still fresh in her head.
The team has a solid attack with great individuals who work well together helping them score numerous goals each game. Additionally, their defense is led by players who have great lacrosse IQ and command the field so that they become one strong unit. The girls are not afraid to hold one another accountable which is an extremely important trait for a team player, and it is the foundation for great teams.
To have the opportunity to make state, Kidder says, “We will need to work on smooth transitions and redefining when we lost the ball. If we can create a team that locks down their counterattacks, we will be unstoppable.”
Basically, if the team uses its leadership qualities to direct fast transitions, it will have no problem competing with the high-level teams they will see on their road to state.
Overall, the lacrosse team’s environment is special. Kidder explains that it “is unique in the way that it’s positive with a unified understanding that we all want to win. Every girl on the field is playing for each other, and with each other. Every one of us wants to not only win but win together.”
Their success not only comes from great talent but from their coach who has cultivated an environment in which the girls support and play for each other. Hopefully, this team’s hard work and commitment will pay off this year as they head into the postseason.
