Last Friday, September 6th, our football team rolled into hostile territory in New Carlisle, and shocked the Northern Indiana Conference with an upset, 7-0.
The Husky defense showed up, shutting out a powerful and seemingly unstoppable offense from New Prairie. The only score of the night came from Junior Franco Biffle with 9:47 left in the second quarter after the Huskies marched down the field. That score capped an 11 minute, 71 yard drive, in which sophomore quarterback AJ Lasane connected with sophomore wideout Brayson Hurley on multiple occasions. Before the score, Lasane connected with Junior H-Back, Austin Ratigan with a 14 yard completion and brought the Huskies in striking distance of the end zone.
This was the only score of the night, but that is all the Huskies needed to leave New Carlisle with a win. The key of the night for Saint Joe was the entire defense. Coming into this matchup the Cougars had scored a total of 89 points in their last two games, but the Huskies shut down their offensive parade with a barrage of diverse blitzes.
Defensive standout was junior outside linebacker Kobby Addo who racked up 7 total tackles and assisted on 6 others. Addo was also a menace when rushing the quarterback collecting 2 sacks with 3 pressures. Finally. Addo also blocked a pass which was vital for the Saint Joe win. You can vote for Addo as the South Bend Tribune High School Football Player of the Week, here.
The Huskies will be taking this momentum into debatably their biggest game of the regular season, the holy war against their bitter rivals, the Mishawaka Marian Knights.
