Andy Yergler is a captain of the soccer team and also a member of the hockey team. He is the goalie of the soccer team and has been playing goalie since the 6th grade. Yergler is having quite the year – most notably shutting out Marian in the latest holy war with a score of 2-0. They look to keep this success going into the postseason. Yergler is excited about their chances, “We have a really solid squad this year and really think we can make a strong push in the playoffs.”
Yergler is an outstanding student and is looking to continue his academic success at Indiana University where his sister already attends. There he will study to be a Doctor and follow in the family business hoping to help many people’s lives. He is eager for this new chapter of his life and ready to meet many new people and friends.
In addition to hockey and soccer, Yergler also played lacrosse for two years and is considering rejoining the lacrosse program. When I asked him why he was coming back he told me. “I miss the camaraderie with the guys and have wanted to scratch the itch and get back on the field.” He previously played defensive midfield but is still undecided about returning to lacrosse.
Yergler has lots of great memories at Saint Joe – one of his favorites was beating Penn last year in hockey in their first meeting with the game going to a shoot out before eventually winning. He shared this advice, “Always be to school on time and make sure to never miss a test or quiz, but if you do make sure to contact you teacher as quick as possible to get that in.”
