Saint Joe girls golf put together a tremendous team effort at Regionals, carding a 348. The team score earned Saint Joe a second place finish and qualified the Huskies for the IHSAA State Championship Tournament next weekend in Carmel!
Varsity player Sydney Schmeltz is thrilled to be going to state. “I can’t wait to bond with my teammates even more at State and the Top Dog Dan Mentock and grow as a team in this accomplishment!”
Congratulations to the Girls Golf members that received All-Conference Honors! 1st Team All-Conference: Lucy Dunham and Marley Dunham. 2nd Team All-Conference: Reese Hull, Bella Jeffrey, and Sydney Schmeltz!
Coach Dan Mentock explains the team’s focus this year. “At the beginning of the year we set a goal of making it to state, we missed qualifying for state last year by 24 strokes, so the motto become 24 in 24 and we were able to beat that by 6 strokes and qualify for State! I am so proud of how far this team has come.”
For the week of September 16-22, Girls Golf player Lucy Dunham was one of the Student Athletes of the Week! She carded a 79 to earn medalist honors at the Penn sectional, helping the Huskies win the sectional championship and snap the host Kingsmen’s streak of 16-straight sectional titles, which was a state record. This was the first time Saint Joe Girls Golf has won the sectionals since 2007! Congratulations Lucy and Huskies!
Swing player Maelyn Ladyga talks about the great team culture, “I enjoyed playing both with the Varsity girls and the JV girls as they are great and have great team spirit and competitiveness.”
Good Luck Girls!
