The Saint Joseph Indians Hockey team played games  last weekend on the 17th and 18th of October. On Saturday the Hockey team faced off against the Adams Eagles in a tight game. The game was a slow paced one, with lots of back and fourth, down the ice and back. The only goal of the night came from Karsen Meiszberg early in the second period with 11 minutes left. Zach Yergler came out of the night with a shutout. The team wasn’t playing as well as they have shown before but still came out with a win.

Learning what they needed to do better, the squad implemented the lessons in their game Sunday. They squared off against a fast Brother Rice team from Illinois and won 5-3.  The first goal came late in the first period with 2 minutes left from Kalvin Kerwin, assisted from Misui. Brother Rice responded before the period ended to make it 1-1 after the first. Brother Rice then put another one in the basket after the first period, then Peter Stockrahm snuck one in to tie it up with 6 minutes left to go in the second. Brother Rice then responded to yet another Indians goal just before the period ended, making it 3-2 after the second. After a quick break and fresh ice to skate on, the action started late in the final minutes of the game. Jack Plomin tied the game up with 2 minutes left, then Charlie Eckrich gave us the lead with 1 minute and 45 second left. The Brother Rice team could not respond and lead to them pulling their goalie in the final minute of the game. The extra player had no chance of helping and Kalvin Kerwin sealed the deal with an empty netter with 15 second left ending the game 5-3.

Congrats the the Indians Hockey Team. They are back on the ice on Sunday, October 25 against HSE whom they lost to in state last year. They will be coming out strong to get back the crown.
