Starting in the end of April, Saint Joseph will partner with local grade schools in order to come together to gather pop tabs to donate to the local Ronald McDonald house. This annual pop tab drive helps to raise money for our local house in South Bend, with the proceeds helping to provide housing, meals, and a safe environment for families with ill or injured children. In doing this, Saint Joe is helping to better serve the local South Bend community, and give back to the families who need it most.
For the last few weeks of the school year, students are encouraged to gather all pop tabs, no physical cans, and place them in the bins around the school. Labeled by classes, these pop tab donations will be gathered and counted, seeing which class can come together to collect the most pop tabs. By the end of may, Saint Joe will collect all pop tabs and bring them to a local recycling center. They will then be weighed and will equal a certain amount of money, all going to help the local Ronald McDonald House.
The involvement of the local community is essential to the local house, as families stay for no cost. In doing this, families can focus on the betterment of their child, with no worries of paying or making money for the time being. The Ronald McDonald House “strives for a world where every family has what they need to ensure the best health outcomes for their children.” With the help of our Saint Joe students, this work can be done.
