Brett Mason is an exceptional example in the St. Joseph High community of getting involved in all different kinds of opportunities and the definition of a leader. Brett came into his freshman year without knowing many people, coming from his middle school in New Prairie; however, it wasn’t going to be difficult for a guy with so much character to find friends. Brett is known for his infectious smile that brightens people’s days even during the difficult times of school. Brett has not only made massive growth in baseball, school, and socially, but also in his faith journey. Brett has become a great senior leader in all that he does and is a true embodiment of what it means to be a husky.
On the baseball field, Brett has been a two-year varsity starter on one of the most competitive teams in the school, leading the huskies on both the offensive and defensive side of the field. Also active in travel baseball, Brett has played for the Landsharks where he’s had great success in left field. The Huskies are currently ranked top three in the state for baseball, with one of their strongest senior classes, led by Mason. Brett has started the year on fire as he scored three runs and stole two bases against New Praire, had a home run and stolen base against Mishawaka, and had another multiple stolen bases against Plymouth. Mason looks forward to leading the Huskies towards a hopeful state run and continuing their undefeated run.
In addition to baseball, Mason never wavers from his studies as he was recognized as a Saint Joe Scholar this April, which is a highly respected honor. This meant that Mason had over a 4.0 cumulative GPA for his first seven semesters of high school. Brett is a great classmate to have, always taking pride in his learning while keeping the class morale high with his humor and smile. Brett had the honor of speaking at the Ignite Gala for Saint Joseph High School in front of hundreds of people, where he spoke about his Saint Joseph High School experience. “It meant the world to me that I was able to share my witness of God with everyone who contributes to the students’ experience at Saint Joe. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget for the rest of my life.”
Brett has also come a long way in his faith journey, as he entered the Church with his Baptism during his junior year at Saint Joseph High School. This year Brett became a sponsor for Easton McFarland, as he led him through the faith journey of entering the Church as he did just this past year. “It’s been a crazy ride. I didn’t know anything about God coming into Saint Joe, and now I am a fully committed Catholic. I’m just glad that I was able to share my experience with everyone else here, especially Easton. I hope my witness can inspire others to come closer to God in their lives.”
Mason plans to pursue business and marketing next year at Holy Cross.
