Following an incredible season in cross country, the Saint Joseph High School Distance Track team Prepares for the upcoming season. With over 60 personal records from the runners across the whole season and a sweep from both the varsity and JV at the city meet, this performance has everyone anticipating a great season. During an interview with Max Elick, a senior and one of the two captains of the distance team, he shared insights on the training and preparation for the season.
He revealed that they have been doing very heavy mileage and running many track workouts to get a feel for the upcoming races. Elick mentioned that he thinks that James Sieradzki, one of the top runners on the team as only a sophomore, will be most improved this season especially in the 1600 and 3200 meter events. Elick’s main goals for the upcoming events are to run a sub two minute 800 meter, 4:20 in the mile, and to run a sub 9:45 minute two mile by the end of his career at Saint Joe.
Looking back on his high school running career, he noted that he loved both cross country and track but said that he enjoys track more because the meets are “really fun to be at” and that there are so many events that you can see even when he is not racing. Along with the track work outs and cross country training in the fall, Elick and Sieradzki have logged over 1,400 miles since the beginning of the summer in 2025. Elick shared a fond memory of the city meet from his sophomore year when the entire team all had great races, enough even to win the meet.
